ARCH1101 EXP2 - SKETCHUP DESIGN PROCESS

During my design process I wanted to use the monument as a spatial quantity and also a way to appreciate and place emphasis on the surrounding environment, something integral to supporting the required themes of local aboriginal culture and also the ecological sustainability of the surrounding environment.

To achieve this I went through many iterations of using the monument itself as a platform to view the park and its surrounds in an architecturally interesting way.

Below is documentation of the process I went through to reach my final iteration of the idea I have just outlined.

Initial Modelling of the Overpass Like Structure/Monument

As seen above, my original combination represented the monument as a barely functionable overpass structure.

While I liked the concept behind this, when I realised it I found that it was too conventionally looking aesthetically and was drawing attention away from the fact that the brief implied the construction of more of a structure aimed at being a sculpture first.

Below are some sketches of the final detailing that I ended up going with; taking the overpass idea and applying a less logical mindset but a mindset that was more in line with the brief and my overall aim with the project.
